03/01/12 - Triathlon Registration Dates
As most of you know, triathlon races in Ireland tend to sell out very quickly. Therefore, it is important that you register for them early. I will be alerting our members to upcoming registration dates for important events.
- Valentia Island - National Champs - Registration open over 3 days:
Jan 29th, Feb 26th 8:00am, 25th Mar 8:00. Accommodation is probably needed the night before. If we get numbers I will arrange it. Registration Link >> - Kilkee 'Hell of the West' Triathlon - Registration opens over 2 days: Feb 29th at 9:00am, Mar 14th at 8:00pm. As usual, this is the club's main race in 2012. The club away night out will be on after the race. Accommodation for 2 nights will be booked. Let this National Series race be your priority this year! More Info>>

31/01/12 - Club News
North Tipp Sprint - The opening date for entries to the North Tipp Sprint will be Monday, Feb 6th at 9:00am. The entry fee will again be a very low €28. You can enter via our website.
Any club member that wants to take part will have to volunteer a relative or friend to marshal in their place. Please don't have us chasing you up on this. We would prefer if most club members marshaled but we certainly won't stop anyone that wants to do the race from doing it.
If you are from Nenagh but not involved with the club and you would love to take up the challenge of completing a triathlon in 2012, then sign up for this race and turn up at our next training session -----> see timetable. We have plenty of experienced members that will help guide you through your first triathlon. It is a great experience and everyone can do it with a little bit of motivation!
Race Result - Sinnead Oakes was in action for the second successive week at the Luke Renehan Foundation 10k in Kildare. Sinnead was first woman home in this race so well done to her!
Club Cycles - The last few weeks have seen some great turn outs for our Saturday morning beginner cycles at 9:00am. Each week we have been cycling a little further. As the distances increase the need to bring some food with you increases. If its cold then wrap up warm. If its wet wear a rain jacket. It's all common sense really! Next week is the final week of cycling before we take a week break to fit in the first Dromineer Duathlon on Feb 11th.
Stroke Work - This is available to all club members as usual on Fridays from 8:00 - 8:45pm and Saturdays from 1:00 - 3:00pm. You are more likely to get a one on one session on Saturdays. These sessions are more beneficial. Cost = free.
31/01/12 - Dromineer Duathlon Series
The final dates for the Dromineer Duathlon Series have been decided. This 4 race series involves a 5km run / 18km bike / 2km run and is suitable for all abilities. These races are not taken very seriously and are just a bit of fun really so don't be scared to come along.

We had large turn outs last year so we hope to continue that this year. The duathlons provide the perfect warm up for the triathlon season.
The dates are as follows:
- February 11th, Sat 9:30 - Warm up race
- March 10th, Sat 9:30
- March 24th, Sat 9:30
- March 31st, Sat 9:30
Each race will be run on a handicap basis with the slower competitors going first and the faster competitors going last. The aim is to make sure everyone finishes at the same time. As always there will be tea and biscuits after the race, paid for by the club.
27/01/12 - Race Results
There were a couple of club members in racing action over the last few days. Darren Dunne and Killian Cullagh both took part in the Schools Cross Country. They both performed very well with Darren finishing in 4th and Killian not far behind in 7th.
Sinnead Oakes was also in action at the Tom Walsh Memorial 10k. Sinnead finished in 63rd position overall.

18/01/12 - Swim Time Trials
This week saw the first 100m swim time trial taking place. Plenty of new PBs were set so well done to all. It is great to see the significant improvements being made. Next week is the 200m TT. We hope more of ye volunteer again for this next week (it probably won't kill you) View Times >>
p.s. rumour has it that we might be organising our own club gala soon. You can start sh*****g your pants now!
17/01/12 - Turbo Training
We had a record turn out at Tuesday's turbo training class. There were 23 members there on the night. Remember the session is free for members and newcomers are always welcome. Bring a towel and water cos it gets warm!
15/01/12 - Saturday Morning Cycle
The Saturday morning beginner cycle was well attended this week. We did a 25 mile cycle with the option of 15 extra miles for anyone that wanted. Next week we will be doing another 25 mile cycle and we hope to increase the distance a little bit each week after. Just a note of warning - if it is cold outside then make sure to wrap up warm. Gloves, hats, leggings etc are essential on cold days.
Wheelers Cycling - If Saturdays don't suit you for a cycle then head out with the Wheelers on Sundays at 9:30am from Moynans shop. There is a beginner group and a faster group and they leave at the same time.
11/01/12 - Swim TT
Eight hardy club members took on the short 50m swim TT challenge today. A number of new PBs were set so well done to all. We hope more of ye volunteer for this the next time or we are going to have to make it compulsory! View Times >>
11/01/12 -Duathlon Season
We are fast approaching the Duathlon Season so you gotta ask yourself the question........are you ready? The first race of the Naas duathlon series takes place next weekend. The first Limerick Duathlon is on Sun, Feb 19th. Plus there are plenty more races on around the country.
Dromineer Duathlon Series - Our club duathlon series will be starting in early February. This is a great opportunity for you to get used to doing duathlons in a non competitive environment. This series is run on a handicap basis. The series will be taking place on the same course in Dromineer. It was well attended last year. It will be good to compare everyones times from last years times to see how ye have all progressed. There will be 4 races in total but the first race will be a warm up race so that we can calculate handicaps.
Brick sessions will be starting soon on the bike. They will take place on Saturdays and will involve a cycle on the road and a run in the CBS. We will let you know more when we have finalised plans. You can also bring along your runners to the turbo training sessions and take part in the short run after on the indoor track. You should be using the turbo sessions to get used to using tri bars. If you haven't got a pair then it is worth your while buying a pair.
07/01/12 - The rest of the week
On Thursday we had an early morning swim. The middle lane got through 3000m, with the other lane dpoing between 2000 and 2500m. We focus a lot on fin & pull buoy work in the mornings so make sure to bring a pair of fins with you when you come along next week. At 7:30pm we had a turbo session in the running complex. This is a tough session that will really bring on your cycling. Many club members bring runners and do a short run off the bike on the indoor track.
On Friday we had our usual running session at 6:00pm starting from the CBS. This session consisted off some interval work on the 1k circuit around the CBS. If you are interested in running with our club at the upcoming county road running races then this is the sort of training session you need to attend.
Our last club training session of the week was the Saturday morning cycle from the Leisure Centre. This cycle is aimed more at beginner cyclists. The pace is generally around 16mph and the group are starting off at 20 miles and building it up to 40 miles over the next 10 weeks. The cycle starts at 9:00 and helmets are compulsory.
05/01/12 - Club training: Day 3
Just a morning swim and evening turbo for you today. The turbo training class is free to all members. We should have some spare turbos available for any newcomers that wish to try it out (7:30 running complex). The turbos are given out on a first come first served basis so come early if you need one! Hope to see good numbers there.
05/01/12 - And on the second day....
There was a tough evening swim. Well done to all survivors. There were strong numbers there last night in the top 2 lanes as usual but where are all the beginner swimmers?? It is the beginner swimmers that are always first to wonder why they are not improving (believing there is some magic formula that others have and that they don't). The answer is pretty simple. A near empty beginners lane every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday throughout the year is the reason. If you don't commit to putting in the conditioning work then you are not going to just miraculoualy develop good swimming technique and stamina. The reason the stronger swimmers are better than you is that they don't miss training sessions.
6:30am is not too early! You will get used to it and it is the perfect time for swimming. Start out by trying to make one morning session per week and combine it with the evening session and you will find yourself improving quickly. If you are nervous about joining in with us then don't be. Just get in the lane and do what you can. If that is just 10 lengths then it is 10 lengths more than you would have done by not going.
Swim Stroke Work - is starting up again on Fridays from 8:00 - 9:00pm and Saturdays from 1:00 - 3:00pm. There will be people there to help you with your stroke. You need to take what you learn here and apply it during the main club training sessions. Cost is free (bar pool entry fee).
Gear: We would ask that everyone buys their own set of fins. You can buy them from - Wiggle

04/01/12 - Good First Day
Well done to everyone that suffered through the first day of club training in 2012 yesterday. Turbo training was well attended, with a number of new faces there. We ran out of spare turbos last night so we would urge those that are currently borrowing turbos to consider buying a new one. The purpose of having the turbos is for new people to come along and try them out for a short while before purchasing. Peter Moynan sells turbos so have a chat with him.
Swimming - Our first swim of 2012 is this evening at 8:00pm. As most of ye know, swimming is very technical and takes a long time to master. If you want to be swimming well this summer then you need to put the work in now. We hope to see a good crowd there this evening.
02/01/12 - Happy New Year
Happy New Year to all our club members. We hope you enjoyed the break and are looking forward to getting back to some training. Some people were very noticeable out on the town this Christmas (no doubt just trying to promote our club in Maximus) and some people are far easier to spot just walking around. The only cure for the beer belly blues is more beer to get stuck into training!
Club training: Starts back on Tuesday, Jan 3rd with swimming at 6:30am. There's also turbo training in the complex - 7:30pm
Circuit training - Won't be starting back until Monday, Jan 9th. For those of you who are joining the club for the first time and want to know what this training session involves - think Rocky 4! Sawing wood, chopping down trees, lifting bags of rocks, carrying logs through thick snow, sit-ups hanging from the rafters, and everyone's personal favourite - wearing a harness and pulling Paulie Bertie along in a sleigh.
New Members: are very welcome. Now is the perfect time to start so make it your New Year's resolution to join the club, get fit and do a triathlon in 2012. Check out our training page for details and just turn up at one of our training sessions. Don't worry - we don't bite (well most of us don't).

22/12/11 - Merry Christmas
The Club would like to wish all our members a Merry Christmas. Thanks to everyone for making 2012 a big success for the club. Put your feet up and relax for a while as the torture will be starting again soon!
Word of warning: Just because there is a week and a half break from training doesn't mean you can go absolutely mental on the beer (most of the lads, but especially Gary!), wine (all the girls!), roses (Keith!), buns (Keith!), Taytos (Keith!), pudding (Keith!), selection boxes (Keith!). I probably should have just shortened that to any food item for Keith.
Christmas presents: Please Santa bring our club members (Darren Dunne especially) these presents for Christmas.

20/12/11 - County Senior Cross Country
The club had a disappointing result at last weekend's County Senior Cross Country. The club came second in the team event on the 10km course in Gooldscross near Dundrum. Nenagh lost out by a single point to the host club Dundrum.
Course conditions were very tough and the Dundrum lads seem to handle it a lot better on the day, so well done to them. Mark Gleeson was our first man home in 4th, next home was Gary Scully in 8th, Pat Grace in 10th, Shane Scully in 13th and Eoin Woolley in 30th. There is nothing like getting beat to motivate you to go out and perform better the next day, so hopefully we can go better in the road season.
It was once again very disappointing not to see a Nenagh women's team in action in the County Senior race. This race is the highlight of the county XC races and should be the primary target. Hopefully we can field a team next year!

15/12/11 - Triathlon Ireland Racing Calendar 2012
The Triathlon Calendar for 2012 has just been published. You can now start planning what races you are going to do in the upcoming season. Even though our race is no longer on the National Series circuit we would still like for our members to target NS races where possible as we want to build on our National Club Ranking from 2011 >> Click to View Calendar
12/12/11 - North Tipp Sprint - National Series Problem
The North Tipp Sprint will not be a National Series event on the 2012 calendar. The reason for this was the late payment of an overdue bill for €65 for 'extra competitor fees' from the North Tipp Sprint in 2011.
The club would like to apologise to anyone that would have been targeting our race as part of the National Series in 2012.
In 2011, we felt we put on a professional race with one of the cheapest entry fees in Ireland. This will continue to be the case in 2012 so we hope people will continue to support the race. We hope to be reinstated as a National Series Event in 2013.
The club mistakingly believed that we had applied correctly for a National Series slot. On publication of the final National Series race list today we found that we were not on the list. We questioned the reason for this and found out that we had indeed missed emails informing us of this non payment in the past. No races with overdue payments were being considered.
Speaking to Triathlon Ireland we were informed that they have a shortage of Sprint Triathlons on the calendar for 2012. However, even though we have now paid the money owed, if they were to let our race back in then they would have to let other races in too.
As a club we know that we fully messed up on this one, but we do feel the punishment was a bit harsh. Triathlon Ireland do have rules and they are just sticking to them, but there are times when common sense & understanding should prevail.
08/12/11 - Weekend racing
Congratulations to Darren Dunne and Killian Cullagh for their performances at the All Ireland U/15 XC race in The Curragh. Darren came home in 6th position and Killian was 14th. Both lads ran very well and can be very proud of this achievement. Both won gold medals as part of the Munster team.
Also racing were JP O'Meara, Johnny Meaghar, Bryce Freeman and Shane Scully. They took part in the Half Marathon in Waterford. All 4 lads put in a great effort and were rewarded with some fast finishing times >> Results
08/12/11 - Christmas Night Award Hosts
This year, there will be two hosts for our awards ceremony. Club Chairman Andy McLoughlin a.k.a My Little Pony, and Club Clown Kevin Sherlock will be entertaining ye for the night. Ear plugs are advisable and sensitive types should stay well clear!
Try and be in the pub by 9:30pm at the latest!
04/12/11 - County Novice B
Congratulations to all our club members that took part in the County Novice B Cross Country in Moyne. Sinnead and Cliodhna took part in the women's race and it was Sinnead that was first home on this occasion, winning the gold medal for Nenagh. Cliodhna won the silver medal making it a one, two for the club. In the men's race Paul Scully came 11th and Johnny Meaghar came 20th.
Next up is the County Senior which takes place in Dundrum on December 18th. Hopefully, we can take home some more medals from this!
02/12/11 - Club News
Club Awards - We will be giving out over 30 awards on the night of the Christmas Party (Sat, Dec 10th - Rockys - 9:00) for various achievements throughout the year, so make sure you are there.
County Novice B - This race takes place this Sunday in Moyne at 1:00pm. Those eligible to take part are Paul Scully, Johnny Meaghar and James Sheary in the mens & Cliodhna McGrath, Sinnead Oakes, Claire Deering and Nancy Carragher in the womens. Try and make it if you can. There are 3 to score on each team and we want to win something!
Swim Training - If anyone wants to work on their stroke then pop down to the pool today from 8:00 - 9:00pm or Saturday from 1:00 - 3:00pm. We will have people there to help you.
Run Results - Darren Dunne took part in the All Ireland U/16 XC championships in Sligo last weekend. Darren came 33rd in a top class field. Conditions were tough on the day. Darren has a better chance at the upcoming U/15 All Ireland that takes place in the Curragh. Killian Cullagh will also be taking part so we wish the two lads the best of luck.
Waterford Half Marathon - If you fancy a challenge before the Christmas Club Night out then sign up for the Waterford Half Marathon. The race starts at 12:00 on saturday Dec 10th.
Gerry Duffy - Ireland's only Deca-Ironman (Ironman everyday for 10 days), shares his story on December 10th in the Nenagh Arts Centre. This will be a very inspirational talk and would be well worth attending. It is on the same evening as our club night out, but you should be able to squeeze in both. His talk starts at 7:30 and finishes at 9:00pm. The Arts Centre is 30 seconds walk from Rocky's so you will only be a few seconds late!! The cost of entry is just €10.
Christmas Day Run - We are giving you plenty of advance notice about this one: Each year there is a 4 mile charity run in Nenagh in aid of The Nenagh Day Care Centre. As a club we try to support this run each year. It is only a fun run and it will help you to build up an appetite for Christmas Dinner. The run starts at 11:00 from the CBS school. We hope to see many of ye there!
Club Training - Month Two of our triathlon training for the 2012 season has come and gone. The training sessions are all being well supported and that is great to see. The Saturday bike session that was on the endangered species list has become a big success, so thanks for everyone for supporting it
The plan for December is more of the same up until Christmas. Official club training sessions will then stop from Sat 24th, Dec - Mon 2nd, Jan.
Swimming - The pool will be closed on the following dates December 24th, 25th, 26th, and 27th.
Running - There are plenty of running races to attend this month including the Waterford Half Marathon, County Novice B XC, County Senior XC, Christmas Day Run, Clonmel 4 Mile on St.Stephens Day & the Keeper Hill Challenge New Years Eve.
If you don't want to come back in January looking like Santa Claus then try and keep some training going throughout the month and take it easy on the Roses!
24/11/11 - Movember
Kevin Sherlock and Brian O'Rourke are involved in the moustache growing charity event called Movember. It's held during November each year and raises funds and awareness for men's health.
