Race Reports

Saturday saw the first triathlon of the season get off to a great start for the club. With 10 ambitious athletes travelling to Portlaoise it was set for a great day.

Ailbhe Carroll was the first Nenagh triathlete to take to the course amongst 24 other junior athletes. She finished strongly to claim both the 1st junior female prize and also the 2nd senior female home. Second out from the swim and on to the bike with some good transitions, set Ailbhe up nicely and left her in a good position for the run. She came home 24th overall.

Shane Kelly, Anthony Sherlock, Edward O'Meara, Justin Cottrell and Paul Nevin all put in some very solid performances, considering the season is yet so young. These performances indicate a great season ahead for the lads.

Paddy Keneally, although his T1 wasn't enviable, requiring some side line help to get dressed, put in a good strong overall performance. Well done Paddy.

Keith with his fancy new wheels, had a good race to finish 7th overall, and Kevin Sherlock hungry to get into the top 20, just missed out by one place to hold 21st.

The performance of the day has to be handed to Shane Scully. Shane swam in the 8th and final wave of the day. With the fastest time of the day of 1.06 in before Shane set off, he knew what he had to do to win. He set out in the swim with a very good pace, pedalled hard through the tough winds on the bike and had a whopper of a run to come in home, to claim 1st place with a time of 1.05. Well done to Shane for putting in such an impressive and gutsy performance.
