TriAthy 2010

The June bank holiday weekend saw a very busy weekend of racing in Athy. Tri- Athy was a 2 day event with the Olympic distance athletes taking to the stage on day 1 and the sprint and junior athletes stealing the lime light on day 2.

Nenagh had one lone soldier ( get it...he is in the Army!!) Sean Gleeson, who took on the Olympic distance. It was Sean’s first go at an Olympic distance triathlon and he had a good race all round. He came home in a time of 2.44.20. For his first time out, I think he is happy with his performance. Well done Sean.

Day 2 saw a few more Nenagh triathletes take up the challenge. With a bit of rain fall the previous night the river flow was a bit faster than day 1. This played to the strengths of the faster swimmers. The mens race was on first with Keith Butler, Denis O Meara, Johhny Meagher and young junior Steven Nagle racing. Keith Butler was 1st Nenagh man home in a time of 1.05.35 to place him 9th overall. This was a good performance by Keith to give him a top ten finish.

Next man home was Denis O Meara in a time of 1.12.45. This was Denis’s second outing of the season so well done to him for a solid performance. Brian O’ Neill followed next in a time of 1.17.00, followed then by Johnny Meagher in 1.30.56 and Steven Nagle who put in a time of 1.33.27 in his first ever triathlon. Well done to all the lads for their performances over the weekend.

The last race of the weekend was the ladies sprint. We had only one Nenagh representative racing. Ailbhe Carroll put in a fine performance to get a podium finish in a time of 1.08.37. With one main competitor on the junior side of things she had a good challenge. The leading junior lady on the national development squad was down to race and Ailbhe did very well to only be caught with 1km to go on the run. Ailbhe settled for 2nd place junior and 3rd place lady overall.

Well done to all the Nenagh Triathlon Club athletes who took part.
