Fenit Triathlon
The Fenit triathlon took place last weekend and a record number of PDs (Personal Disasters) were had by the Nenagh triathletes who took part. A combination of very choppy seas, rough roads, and personal weakness led to a combined club disaster showing. Of course the final placing's of 2nd, 5th, 8th (second female), 12th, 13th, and 36th might have you believing that the results were great but the Nenagh men and woman would be very quick to alert you to the falsehood in that remark!
6 Nenagh triathletes took part in Fenit's first triathlon. As the wind picked up and the waves got higher, the spirits of 1 or 4 members started to drop. The swim leg was very tough with high waves, and strange buoy placements playing havoc with the field. It led to some slow times for the distance but everyone battled through it bravely. The countdown starts from 10 don't seems to work. Inevitably everyone went on eight - 10, 9, go, go ,go! Did the Nenagh crew do the right thing and wait till zero.....of course not.
Ailbhe, Keith and Kevin suffered most in the Atlantic washing machine and were eager to make up for lost time on the bike. Down the road Shane was having a tough time on the bike with the road surface rattling through his bones. Keith and Ailbhe were putting in good bike times and came into the final transition together. Kevin came in slightly ahead of the Brian O'Rourke who had another fine swim in the sea.
Keith Butler put in a strong run to take 5th place overall. Ailbhe couldn't hold off the challenge of the fast moving Aoife O'Connor and has to settle for second place. Kevin Sherlock came out just on top in his personal battle against Brain O'Rourke. Keith Horan continued his fine run of form with another impressive outing in the Nenagh colours. Keith put in great swim and bike legs to place high up in the final placings.
