27/04/08 - North Tipp SprintThe very first North Tipp Sprint triathlon took place through the streets of Nenagh last Saturday. The race consisted of a 750m swim, a 20km cycle and a 5.5km run and it brought 170 competitors from all round Ireland to take up the challenge. The triathlon proved to be tough on the competitors with the strong wind and hilly course testing the will power of each triathlete.
The race was won by Tadhg Cronin from the Piranha Triathlon Club in Dublin in a time of 1:07:45. The first female triathlete home was Limerick's Lisa Horgan in a time of 1:14:07. Congratulations goes out to all the Nenagh triathletes who competed in the race. First Nenagh triathlete home was Darren Nevin in 8th place in a fantastic time of 1:11:51. This was Darren's first race of the year and we are expecting a great season from him. The Nenagh relay team of Hugh Flannery, Peter Bane and Hugh Maloney also had a great race. They were first relay team across the finishing line in a time of 1:08:22.
The final race positions of the remaining Nenagh triathletes was Robert O'Donoghue 46th, Paul Nevin 47th, Eddie O'Meara 67th, Eamon Hartnett 68th, Cian McCormack 77th, Justin Cotterill 82nd, Eamon Cleary 102nd, Ailish Cleary 104th, and Anthony Sherlock 121st.
The Nenagh Triathlon Club would like to thank all the spectators who came to watch the race and cheer everyone on. We would also like to thank our race sponsors and the many volunteers who helped out and made the event such a tremendous success. Hopefully the race can continue to grow in years to come.
