01/07/08 - Kilkee Triathlon
The 'Hell of the West' triathlon in Kilkee is widely regarded as being the toughest triathlon on the Irish circuit, and it certainly lived up to its reputation last weekend. 6 Nenagh triathletes took part in the race that consisted of a 1500m sea swim, 45km bike and 10km run.
The strong wind blowing in from the Atlantic caused many problems for the competitors over all three of the triathlon disciplines. The wind combined with the hilly bike and run course sapped the energy of all 556 competitors who took part in the race. The race attracted many of Ireland's top triathletes as it is part of the National Series and therefore counts towards your national rankings.
All the Nenagh triathletes finished in the top half of the field, which is a great performance for the club in only our first year. Shane Scully was first home for the club in 19th position in a time of 2:25:43. Next home was Keith Butler in a time of 2:35:53, then Denis O'Meara 2:46:57, then Joe Cantwell 2:51:49, then Kevin Sherlock 2:52:43 and then Andrew McLoughlin in a time of 2:54:07.
