Nenagh Triathlon News
31/07/10 - Dromineer TriathlonThe second race of the Dromineer triathlon series has come and gone and the results are in. On a typical Irish morning of sunshine and showers it was Paul Scully who was first past the finish line to take the victory. The other podium positions were filled by Michael Brown in second and Ciaran in third.

30/07/10 - Lough Derg Monster
Well done to Team Sherourke who managed to come second in the recent Lough Derg Monster adventure race. Kevin Sherlock and Brian O'Rourke battled through the 27km bike, 7km run, 9km bike, 1km run, 1.5km kayak, 5km run in a super fast time of 3:37:08. This was the lads first podium finish so well done on a great accomplishment.

28/07/10 - Beast of the East
Congratulations to Denis O'Meara and Joe Cantwell who took part in last weekend's 'Beast of the East' triathlon in Wicklow. This triathlon is regarded as being one of the toughest challenges on the triathlon circuit in Ireland. Both lads battled through the hilly course strongly to come home well up the filed. Joe came home in 60th place overall and Denis wasn't too far behind in 81st.
24/07/10 - Second Dromineer Triathlon
The second Dromineer triathlon will be taking place on Saturday, July 31st at the usual time of 9:30am sharp. If you haven't taken part before then don't worry, newcomers are always welcome. The race is over a sprint distance and you can do it at your own pace. Only kevin one person takes it seriously, but just ignore him like we all do.
For those of you who would like to take part but don't fancy the swim, then the option of running the first leg is available. If you need a loan of a wetsuit then ask one of the committee members.
23/07/10 - End of Year Challenge
As we approach the end of the triathlon season the club have decided to go out with a bang. On Saturday, September 18th there will be a triple challenge for you to enjoy.

Challenge 1: The final Dromineer triathlon will be taking place at 9:30am. This prestigious event is a sprint distance triathlon with club pride at stake.
Challenge 2: This will be a lake swim from Youghal over to GarryKennedy. This takes place on the evening of Sat 11th at 6:00pm sharp.
Challenge 3: Club Night Out. After the swim we will be having a few pints in Garrykennedy and then it's back into Nenagh for a few more. We will have transport all organised so need to worry about that.
We hope that everyone will make a special effort to be there. Club training will be stopping for a few weeks after so that gives you plenty of time to recover.
22/07/10 - Nenagh 4 Mile Road Race
The club are organising a 4 mile running race on Friday, August 20th. The race starts at 7pm and the entry fee is €10. There is a link to the race in the right hand navigation with more details. We ask all members to either help out or take part on the day. We want to try and get a large crowd at the race so spread the word and try and be there if you can.

19/07/10 - Dromineer Triathlon
The first really big race of the year took place last weekend in Dromineer. This race is bigger than anything the Irish triathlon circuit has to offer. It is about bragging rights over your fellow club members and there is nothing more important than that!
On the first day of the Nenagh triathlon sprint series eight eager members turned up in search of bragging rights. After the transition was set-up and the carpet put in place we hit the lake. There was a quick warm up before the siren sounded & the battle to jump on to feet got underway Read More>>

18/07/10 - Carrick Triathlon
The Carrick triathlon was a good day for Nenagh Tri. With one win and 3 good performances, Nenagh athletes shone just like the weather did.
With a 750m down stream swim, the stronger swimmers were at a slight disadvantage not being able to build up the usual gap they might do. The fastest swim time was 7.17 showing the flow was a strong one. The bike route was mostly flat with just a few rises here and there. Nothing that would be too testing, but after a swim, everything can change! The run course was mostly flat also with just one hill on the way out of the town.

So first Nenagh athlete out of the water was Ailbhe Carroll. She swam a time of 7.34 hopping 4th out of the water. Next was Keith Butler, who later caught Ailbhe on the bike with a few km to go and ended up finishing in 11th place which was decided by a sprint finish which the Nenagh man won. Joe had a better swim than he had in Cahir but unfortunately his bike didn’t want to work with him on the day and Joe found the bike leg tough. He redeemed himself on the run and put in a good time for the 5.7km run that was. Eddie O Meara also put in a good performance. He also found the time to hide Keiths’ runners on him… but not to worry!!!

19/07/10 - Triathlone
TriAthlone took place recently on the first weekend of the month. This is one of the largest events in the country and continues to grow every year. This year's event also coincided with the European Triathlon Championships so there was a great buzz around the town with huge crowds on the river bank and lining the streets for the run.
There were 5 club members, all racing in the sprint events. First person home in the men's race was Graham O'Keeffe putting in another of his consistent performances. Next home was Brian O'Neill, although he had some problems after the race getting his correct time from race organisers. Shane Kelly, closely followed by Sean Gleeson, completed the club contingent in the race.
John Paul Gilmartin also competed in Nenagh colours while not technically a club member but he assures us his membership fee is in the post. Competing very well in the women's race was Maire O'Doherty. Congratulations to all who competed on a succesful day in the midlands.
15/07/10 - Dromineer Triathlon Training
This will be taking place again this Saturday 17th at 9:30 in Dromineer. We hope to get as many people there as possible so if you haven't given this training session a go yet then turn up on the morning and give it a lash. What's the worst that can happen? Actually don't answer that question...just turn up! By the way, you will need all your racing gear for this.
14/07/10 - Cahir Triathlon
Last weekend 5 Nenagh triathletes traveled down to Cahir, to the second stage of the Tri3 series. The weather was less than impressive but team Nenagh put in some solid performances all around.
First Nenagh man home was Keith Butler. Keith had a very good swim and was out with the main pack only to get into T1 and have a battle with his helmet. He recovered well and came home in 8th place overall.
Also in wave 1, Joe Cantwell and Denis O Meara performed well on the day. Although Joes swim didn’t quite go according to plan, he biked and ran very well. Denis was solid in all three disciplines and was followed home by a fast improving Eoin Woolley and Seán Gleeson.

Seán must have been feeling great on the day as he had time to say hi to me in transition as I cheered him on!! J P Gilmartin also racing in Nenagh colours, rounded up the troops on the day and was also happy with how his race went. Well done to all the guys, good to see the Nenagh colours flying strong.

12/07/10 - Ballina Triathlon
Congratulations to Kevin Sherlock and Shane Scully who represented the club in the Powerade 'Salmon Run' triathlon in Ballina. The lads did very well in truly atrocious conditions, battling through the floods to come home well up the field. Shane came home second in this national series event and Kevin came home in 25th.
07/07/10 - Aquathon Series
Calling all club members....The Limerick Triathlon Club are organising a series of 3 aquathons (swim & run) in Killaloe in August. The aquathons will be taking place on a Wednesday evening and will be attended by 3 clubs - Limerick, Nenagh and Ennis.
Each race will start at 7.15pm and registration opens at 6:30. The race is handicapped and there are terrific prizes at the end of the series. You need to compete 2 out of the 3 races to have a chance of winning and the cost is €10 per race or €25 for the 3. More details can be found in the attachment below.
It would be great if we could get a large group from the club to attend this so make sure to keep the date free in your diary

28/06/10 - Kilkee 'Hell of the West' Report
The 'Hell of the West' is proving to be a little tamer than its nickname suggests if recent Nenagh triathlete results are to be believed. With a strong contingent from the club taking on the challenge it was great to see so many breaking their PBs for the tough course. Many of us had target times in our heads for the race and it was great to be able to live up to our aspirations

Brian O'Rourke was the star performer on the day beating his PB for last year by nearly 20 minutes. Also, greatly improving on his PB for the course was Joe Cantwell, who had the swim of his life to come home in 2:31. This is an improvement of 8 minutes on his PB. Read More >>
